Tips for Buying EarthBound

March 19th, 2014 | Itoi, MOTHER 1, Videos

A reader named Arthur sent an e-mail a little while back:

Chrontendo is a video series of one guy playing all of the games for the NES/Famicom in order of their release. He is on Episode 47 which features Mother 1. He goes into more detail for this game than the average game.

The Mother footage starts at 30:45

And here’s the actual video:

I always thought this Chrontendo thing was a really fun idea and something I’d like to try someday to fully appreciate the evolution of games from the 8-bit console days. I might have to wait until I’m retired or something though :P

Dr. Sparkle and the Chron shows are pretty legit. I’ve been waiting for forever for this episode to come out! If people haven’t already, check out the series and give Chronsega and Chronturbo a look-see.

He does some pretty insightful retrospectives on the games without coming off as overly-negative or being the usual Youtube fare of “angry angry rant rant”.

Truthfully I’ve never really cared to finish MOTHER. I started the RPG several years ago and simply never endured the game. The narrator’s non-biased “this game is fifty percent amazing, fifty percent annoying” statement seems quite poignant. However! I’m a huge EarthBound fan and I should play through MOTHER based on that fact alone…

Yeah, I was the same way for a long time and I know a lot of fans feel the same way, which is why I made my Mother 1+2 patch a couple years back: http://mother12.earthboundcentral.com/
