Tips for Buying EarthBound

September 27th, 2013 | EarthBound, Images

The other day we took a look at ONM’s review of EarthBound on the Wii U Virtual Console. Now let’s take a look at another review from Retro Gamer magazine!

This scan comes courtesy of Sebastian, who also writes:

Dear Tomato,

Retro Gamer magazine reviewed Earthbound around the same time ONM did, so I scanned their review in as well. That Ness sprite in the top corner clearly isn’t from EB, though, so where did they get it from?

I really don’t know, but it seems familiar somehow. Maybe it was on some fan sprite site? Does anyone have any info?

Anyway, the magazine gives EarthBound a 92% score, which sounds like a good rating. It’s so cool to see all these magazines giving the game such high scores!

Great to see the game getting good ratings!

I managed to find that sprite in the top right corner on The Spriters Resource although I don’t know if it appeared in any other sites.

That is a pretty interesting sprite. I honestly don’t remember seeing that in game. Maybe it was hand made. It’s nice to see good reviews of Earthbound.

As for the Wii U, my dad surprised the rest of the family with an impulse buy of the Zelda edition of the Wii U. I had a feeling he wanted one because he wouldn’t stop talking about it for the past three weeks! Well, looks like I have an excuse to buy the Wii U version of Earthbound.

I think that sprite is from that “Ness Vs. Everything” flash animation. Not sure if the guys who made the animation made that sprite or if someone else did, but I’m pretty sure it’s safe to say at least that’s it’s not official in any way. :p That’s about the best I can say for it. Haha!

Very cool that EarthBound is getting the praise it deserves after all these years! Our chances of getting the other two games seem to be slowly rising, methinks…

The sprite was made by my friend Gabe a few years ago. It’s interesting a magazine would use fan work!

There is a very similar sprite on The Spriters Resource, and there’s a similar one for each of the chosen 4, but this one in the magazine is a bit different, it’s not the one used in game.

Mato, quick! I’m feeling to happy happy about the Earthbound reviews! Can you please find any reviews that are recent but very critical, even comedically, to an extent. I want to hear what are some recent compalaints, even if they are from a 5 year old, or even the most correct parson in the world. It just seems too good!

Yeah, I agree. But that’s what Giygas made YouTube comments for!

I dunno. Do fans need to support anything? I’m not really sure.
