Tips for Buying EarthBound

August 6th, 2012 | EarthBound, Images

A while back NorthOfOnett let me know about a neat little project a seamstress friend was working on – turning an old coat into a replica of Ness’ backpack!

After much work, the backpack was finally finished – you can see the results here:

And for reference, here’s Ness’ backpack as seen in a Smash Bros. game:

I think it’d be cool if Fangamer or someone sold some of these as part of a Ness cosplay combo pack or something. (In fact, that’s Fangamer’s Courage Badge sewed onto the bag there.) I imagine the amount of time needed to make them might not make it worth it, though. In any case, I’m impressed with how well it turned out :D

Thanks for sharing this with everyone Mato!
(It wasn’t a lab coat though. Just a regular ol’ coat :P)

I’d have to talk with my friend, but I think if she’s willing, I could at least give this pattern for the pack to someone like Fangamer or Eyes5! Since she had to make the bag from scratch, she had to create a pattern from scratch.

Oops, I changed it. Dunno why I said it was a lab coat, heh.

It’s kind of ironic – Ness’s outfit was designed with the clothing of the quintessential American childhood in mind, and yet these days (by which I mean pretty much the entire eighteen years since EarthBound) people have to go to such painstaking efforts as these to replicate Ness’s clothing.

NorthofOnett,

Do you still have the pattern for the backpack? I would love to use it to make my own!

NorthofOnett,

I’m cosplaying as Ness this year and was wondering if you’d be willing to have your friend make a backpack for me. I can pay you. Please contact me @ mysterymaninabox@yahoo.com. I’d really like to make this happen and that backpack is by far the best I’ve seen.
