Tips for Buying EarthBound

January 3rd, 2012 | EarthBound, Images, Merchandise

A few weeks ago a rare EarthBound poster hit eBay and it sold for a whopping $1225. It was bought by a fellow named CB, who even posted in the comments on this site shortly after. It sounded like the poster was going to be a part of a big EarthBound display on CB’s wall – and now we have a shot of it! Behold!

The rarity and price of this collection brings onions to my eyes~

If you don’t recognize some of this stuff, some are listed in more detail here!

Nice collection!

I’ll get around to posting pictures of mine…someday 😀 Hopefully it will all be framed and displayed as beautifully as yours. Too cool!

Woooow, so awesome. 😀 I honestly can’t recall if I won a sticker set or not. I’m pretty sure I did. :O

Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaang!
The only EB merchendice I have is the original MOTHER game, and EarthBound.
EarthBound and MOTHER came in in bubble wrap, so I don’t even have the box.
I have also seen the original box (Only) sell for like $100!
We are crazy fans!

Man that is awesome. Very nice display, but god i see the dollar signs basicly flying out of that.

You cannot grasp the true form of my jealousy.

CB said on Jan. 3, 2012

Thank you everyone for the great comments. Yes it was a bit of an expensive wall but when it comes to EarthBound it’s worth it. I felt that it needed to be just about perfect to live up to the games sheer awesomeness which is why it took longer than I wanted to submit a picture, and thank you Poe, I tried to give it as good of an EarthBound feel as possible to convey how amazing this game is to the non-EarthBound fans that see it.

Lessten said on Jan. 3, 2012

Only merchandise i have is mother 1+2 and that was really expensive. Thinking about the price of this Makes me sick. CB, how did you afford that wall of expensive awesomeness?

CB said on Jan. 3, 2012

Yea I got this question when I first bought the poster also; it was basically a mixture of saved income and lucky coincidence. I am by no means rich and no I don’t have a super amazingly high paying job. I don’t really spend a lot of my excess money so when something like these things comes along I am able to get them, I guess I’m just good at saving money and it shouldn’t make you sick. EarthBound means a lot to me for a lot of reasons and that’s why I’m willing to shell out that money for it.

Poe said on Jan. 3, 2012

I’m really happy to know that you’re not going into debt for the sake of EarthBound. Glad you’ve been smart about it! I could learn a thing or two from you 😉

Onett Resident said on Jan. 3, 2012

Thank Celestia I collect modern Zelda stuff, If I collected EarthBound stuff I’d be living in the beach! O_o ,still wish I could get some of this stuff…

CB said on Jan. 3, 2012

The savings account may be a bit depleted but no I don’t get into debt over this stuff, life comes first hobbies second, and thanks Poe =)

Onett Resident said on Jan. 3, 2012

Well, your dedication is admirable CB! Wish I had more money but oh well!

CB said on Jan. 3, 2012

Thank you Onett Resident, and as long as your an EarthBound fan thats all that matters =)

Onett Resident said on Jan. 3, 2012

Yeah, At least I got a couple of bucks in the Holidays so I was able to buy Mother 1+2, the only problem waiting! Hahaha!

RandomGuardian said on Jan. 3, 2012

😀 Shield it from the light! Put it in bullet proof glass! Keep it under constant temperature analyasis! Anything to make this collection last forever!

CB said on Jan. 3, 2012

Oh you couldn’t see the laser grid and unbreakable glass surrounding the entire collection in the picture, haha. But seriously I do plan on protecting the collection a bit better in the future, glass around the figurines and original EarthBound box, which is complete with game, guide, and inserts (except the cardboard insert) and a much better frame for the poster, it’s hard to find a that big a frame for a decent price.

Onett Resident said on Jan. 4, 2012

At least you weren’t lazy and took a while to get the frame! I have to buy one for the Skyward Sword Cloth map but I am lazy to the extreme!

FlyingManCourage said on Jan. 4, 2012

Well I admire the fact that you have done something that makes you happy.

However, I’m sorry I just can’t get past the $1,200 for a poster. I know it’s your money and your life and your decisions and I wouldn’t dare to tell someone else what to do with their life, but if I had $1,200 and all I wanted was a poster for it, I’d buy a regular poster and donate the $1,150 to charity. I just think there’s a million better things that can be done with an extra $1,000 that are much better than buying an poster for nuance game from the 90s……you know….like help feed many of the starving people in this world….or maybe even provide medical care to a few people who otherwise would have none.

I don’t mean to chastise you. I’m just saying, that’s what I would do with $1,200.

Erwin said on Jan. 4, 2012

Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez…

Your wall kinda dwarfs the recently purchased Mother 1 flyer I just framed.

TMMDI said on Jan. 4, 2012

@FlyingManCourage
What are you doing on a computer? If it were me I would have taken the money used to purchase your computer and internet and spent it on charity.

CB said on Jan. 4, 2012

@FlyingManCourage
Some opinions should be kept to yourself, I don’t mean to sound rude but there are reasons which you do not know/understand why I would spend that amount on this stuff (which I will not be explaining here), and the entire reason behind submitting this photo was so that others could enjoy it with me, because I know that there are fans on here that love it just as much as I do.

Mato said on Jan. 4, 2012

Haha, don’t worry CB, that kind of reply is standard for a post like this. Here’s another one from a few months ago: link

Just do what makes you happy and don’t let the Debbie Downers get you down.

Onett Resident said on Jan. 4, 2012

Haha! I always see that type of comment everywhere I GO, don’t worry CB! At least we understand you!

Cre'lus said on Jan. 4, 2012

WHY IS THAT NOT IN AN AIRTIGHT SAFE SURROUNDED BY LASERS AND LIONS?? There needs to be more lions around it if you ask me..

CB said on Jan. 4, 2012

Yes, I have seen other comments like that and they don’t bother me but i thought if i explained a bit maybe it could be understood from my point of view. Thanks for the support everyone =)

FlyingManCourage said on Jan. 5, 2012

Again, I said I wasn’t chastising you.

However, you can’t expect to post something like this and get nothing but “Oh that’s awesome.” Each is welcome to his opinion and I was simply stating mine, and attempting to do respectfully due to the nature of my opinion.

It is the nature of our society to only hold discussion with those who are agreeable to our plights and opinions of the world. God forbid there be one of among us who differs.

And a computer and a poster are totally different things. I commonly use my computer to donate to Child’s Play and other well-known charities.

Charitable donations should only be given because the individual wants to do so, the reason why I so strongly expressed that is what I, MYSELF would do if I had to 1,000 in a poster fund, I would do other things than buy a piece of paper that hangs on my wall.

I’m sorry, I didn’t realize the only reason you posted this was to gain support and hear praise for your decision. I didn’t realize we had entered that twilight zone.

Again, I’m glad you did something that made you happy.

FlyingManCourage said on Jan. 5, 2012

There’s also a good reason why you will always see comments like that in situations like these and, unfortunately, it is not solely due to envy, jealousy, and intolerance.

Have a wonderful day, everyone.

CB said on Jan. 5, 2012

Well I’m sorry you feel that way and no, I did not post here to gain praise, I don’t really care what others think. As explained above there are reasons beyond your comprehension for my feelings towards EarthBound. My reasons for saying some opinions should be kept to yourself is not because I wanted only praise it was because I put it up here for others to enjoy and share in the love of EarthBound the way I do, plain and simple. Yes everyone is entitled to their opinions but that does not mean you need to bring others around you down. I personally don’t believe in telling others things like that when you don’t know them or the situations they are in.

FlyingManCourage said on Jan. 5, 2012

So in essence you believe that the only opinions that be shared are those that are agreeable with yours.

I’m sorry for offending as I clearly have. You say it doesn’t bother you but you are being defensive and you clearly have a problem with me saying what I think. I competely disagree with you in this situation about opinions being kept to themselves. I didn’t say “omg you are so lame spend your money wisely ahole!”.

You posted a picture of something on the internet. There are going to be tiny any yang reactions no matter what you want. If you can’t handle one or the other, you would be better off keeping your own opinions to yourself.

I do feel sorry that you were “brought down”‘ by my comment. That wasn’t my intention at all and I think is more indicative of a potential insecurity with your purchase than my actual intent and true meaning.

It appears to reason and applying your own advice to yourself is asking too much on this situation. You don’t know situation or the details of my comment yet you are cantering your impression the same as I. It is only human nature.

Enjoy your wall.

CB said on Jan. 5, 2012

Please don’t think I don’t want your opinions heard, that’s not my intention. I do appreciate how nice you were about your opinion though, which many on the internet are not. I was by no means offended by your words or your opinion so you know, the way I think is that for everyone who has an opinion and actually says it there are others that have the same opinion but say nothing so thank you for speaking for all of them, and I was just trying to convey my point of view pertaining to anything EarthBound. No I was not brought down by your comment at all, I just didn’t want others to be angered or upset with your comments, I see nothing wrong with them and it does help to see things from others perspectives. I apologize if I offended you also in any way, which was not my intention. A little harsh at the end there but some criticism never hurt anyone now did it.

FlyingManCourage said on Jan. 5, 2012

Yes, I’m sorry I’m getting a bit defensive myself.

I really didn’t mean for this to lessen your enjoyment of your wall, and I am not being sarcastic in any way when I’m say sorry for that.

I’ll just find something else on the internet to have an opinion about. It’s a big place.

Onett Resident said on Jan. 5, 2012

Giygas got the best of you two didn’t he D:

CB said on Jan. 5, 2012

No problem. You haven’t lessened my enjoyment any so no worries, in a weird way I have actually enjoyed the conversations, although we both got defensive there for a little while =)

WOW (boy, I’m late to the party…) very impressive wall bud! All you need is the MOTHER 2 dragon jacket and the MOTHER 1 Franklin badge and you have a set up that would make anybody on this site’s head EXPLODE! … Or, maybe implode?… Which ever is more dramatic.
