Good ol’ eagle0wl just e-mailed me about a live performance of the Eight Melodies song from MOTHER that will be shown on Shigesato Itoi’s website – it’s supposed to happen in less than 24 hours from now, in fact. It’s being played by Masakatsu Takagi with a special guest appearance by Keiichi Suzuki, one of the main musicians for the first two MOTHER games.
You can see it on Itoi’s site’s UStream channel here at 8:00 PM Thursday – that’s Japanese time, so it’s less than 24 hours from now.
It’s explained that when he was young, Takagi tried to play MOTHER music on a piano one day, and that’s what eventually led him to become a well-known and accomplished artist. For this performance, he’s going to play his own unique version of the Eight Melodies song, as well as some other personal MOTHER-inspired music. It also sounds like Keiichi Suzuki is going to jam with him sometimes during the performance too.
So if you can, check it out!

Can someone record this performance and put it up on youtube? If what Poe says is true, I’ll be off to school at 7 am, so I can’t view it myself, and I’m sure many others can’t either. Just a suggestion.
They may archive the live performance on UStream. At least, the Moonriders concert last year was.
And yes, it appears to be taking place at 7 AM Thursday, EST (with DST).

Yup, 7AM Eastern Time in the US. Hopefully someone has the capability to capture the stream to a video file. There’s no guarantee that this will be saved to Ustream. I remember another concert like this was only available for streaming for the next day or so afterward.
Oh damn its 6 am in Central Time fffffff, it’s good Im out of school tomorrow but I’ll have to wake up early XD

So it’s 6 AM Central time, huh? I’ll try to wake up a few minutes earlier so I can see at least some of it before I head off to school tomorrow. I usually wake up right around then on weekdays anyway, but it wouldn’t hurt for me to wake up just a little bit earlier than usual.

I hope someone can save the performance; I’m not staying up until 4 AM for this, no matter how nice the performance is.

If ustream cut out for you, it’s still going on live right here: http://live.nicovideo.jp/watch/lv45522971#09:18
Yeah, cut out for me, found that already thanks to the twitter stream. Stinks it cut out in the middle of my favorite song (Mother’s Introduction) though. Really hoping for a recording.
Glad it wasn’t only me UStream died on…thought my internet had forsaken me. Anyone else having some bad audio issues?
Audio is fine on this end. I suppose there absolutely will be a recording. One of the ~3,380 people is probably recording. Hopefully, they’ll put it someplace easy to find, if there’s not an official one.
I guess I’d better head off to school now, but I was enjoying what I got to hear from the stream. Hopefully someone can record the rest of it!
Oh snap! I didn’t even realize Twinkle Elementary was the traditional Japanese school bell sound: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xEQ3c8xyLZc
I can’t believe I didn’t catch that. Very clever little composition.

niconico douga is fine.
not have to regist. check it out!
What song is that he’s playing right now? I don’t recognize it…it seems to be called “Light Song”, whatever it is.

@Clockerstance – kyo has been translating some of what they’re saying on twitter:
They’re just talking about the piano the guy is using. Some kind of hybrid piano. Not really paying attention though.
(about mr. suzuki:)
He’s talking about how he wrote most of the songs at home. He said that he even had the programmer come to his house to put his songs into the game.
Now talking about how music in games back in the day had to take into account how the systems couldn’t produce so many different notes at the same time. How composers had to work through that by using arpeggios a lot and whatnot.
@Matt
“Light song” is Mr.Takagi think songs like MOTHER. So-called fan-art(?).
@ eagle0wl
Thanks. It did sound kind of like MOTHER, now that I think about it.
I think I’ve just found a new artist I like. I expected him to just play Mother stuff, but the other stuff is pretty fantastic.
|
| Poe said on Apr. 7, 2011 |
Yeah, I’m really impressed by his playing. I like how he gets real into it and moves around all crazy-like. That’s how you know musicians enjoy what they do
OK, now I’m just falling asleep. I tuned in to hear Eight Melodies, not this guy playing a bunch of his own songs + Snowman. Why doesn’t he let Suzuki take the spotlight and play a Mother tune?
|
| Poe said on Apr. 7, 2011 |
Kyo said Suzuki-san will be back a little later, so there will probably be more MOTHER stuff.
Snowman, the Mother Title Screen, a little bit of Monkey Caves, Pollyanna Twinkle Elementary, A bit of the hippie song + possible others I missed during the cut. There has been a fair amount of Mother 1 music.

There, he’s back!
|
| Poe said on Apr. 7, 2011 |
He learned the English words!
I wonder if those credits are really going to go through all the twitter people or ustream members watching or whatever it is. Because they’ll be singing this for hours, if so.

| Kyosuke said on Apr. 7, 2011 |
Waaaah, this sounds so good!
Hahah. They’re only on G. This is going to take at least a half hour more, I think.
|
| Poe said on Apr. 7, 2011 |
It’s turning into a real concert now!
|
| Kyosuke said on Apr. 7, 2011 |
They just wrote on the screen that they are gonna continue playing longer than scheduled because of all the viewers they have.
niconico douga(nicovideo.jp) has “timeshift function”.
This function can see the live broadcast again. Record this movie. haha.

eagle0wl – did Itoi say something about “America” and “Starman”?
|
| Kyosuke said on Apr. 7, 2011 |
54,000+ people watching?! Wow…
@Poe
Itoi said
“You’ll also have a MOTHER fan site in US? Site name is starfan?”
I wrote on the nicovideo.jp.
“This is starmen.net.”
Few seconds later..
staff said “The starmen.net.”
Mr.Itoi “oh. That’s it.”
|
| Poe said on Apr. 7, 2011 |
Awesome!!
He mentioned starmen.net first as starmen club then said the websites named and stated that it was a merican fan site something along those lines my Japanese is terrible
Oh man, I hope someone out there posts a high quality version of some streaming site. I missed so much!
|
| Kyosuke said on Apr. 7, 2011 |
____snuff!!!!
And, it’s over. Time for me to sleep. It’s been nice chatting with you all.
|
| Kyosuke said on Apr. 7, 2011 |
Alright, I guess 60,000+ people logged in to watch? But the max people watching at the same time was 6,000.
It would be pretty rad if starmen.net renamed itself to starmen club for April 1st next year. Varsity jackets and all.
I must have done something wrong, I signed up on the site assuming “timeshift” had something to do with a recording of the event and it said I needed to have a premium membership.
Ah, forget it. Hopefully somebody found the means of recording this.
I’m working on it right now. Part of the recording got borked, so around 30 minutes of the video close to the beginning is garbled and will be cut out, but the audio is in tact (minus about two minutes when switching from UStream to Nico Nico), so I’ll just put a placeholder image during that time. I am hoping that I won’t have issues getting the available video and audio to sync though…
But what would be nice is if somebody had a premium membership and got access to the official recording… though that may not be available for seven days (I think that’s what the error message says).

I’d love to get a clip of the Starmen mention so I can sub it for people to see. If anyone can get a clip of it, send it my way!

@TGP
@blahmoomoo
To use “timeshift” viewing function, you must be get account. There is not have to become a premium membership. You can use “timeshift” function in the economy account.
premium :
“timeshift” function is valid for 7 days.
economy :
“timeshift” function can be used only once.
*****
But to use “timeshift” you must be “reserved” before the live.
*****
I have privilege of “timeshift” viewing. I will try to save the streaming movie tommorow. (Now AM2:00 in Japan. sorry.)
Wow, can’t wait to see this! I was sleeping like a dead person at seven today, ’cause I’ve been sick for almost two weeks now… But EB Central always helps me pull through!
Mato: Unfortunately, I think that was part of where the video got borked. And when I say borked, I mean that it’s weirdly blocky and stuff, as if the part of the beginning of the video was combined with part of the end of the video (silly capture software not being able to handle videos larger than 4 GB). I’m converting the video right now to try and recover as much information as possible, but I don’t think I will be able to properly recover that specific part. But I do have an audio recording of that part.
eagle0wl: I figured that the timeshift viewing required an advance reservation, based on what I read via the translation. If the flv, mp4, or whatever could be saved by downloading it (such as with Real Player’s video downloader), that would be great. Except that video may be lower quality than the live stream, based on what I read in the features, unless a premium account is used. I guess you’ll see.

Everything about this is so cool — special thanks to eagle0wl for correcting them about the website name! Perhaps we’ll have Jon combine the Starmen.Net and Fangamer logos for a limited-edition Starfan shirt, heheh.
Can you imagine how we would have reacted if this happened 10 years ago? The sound of 10,000 fans in stunned silenced, and then the squealing would begin.

ありがとう、eagle0wlさんにいつも感謝の限りです!
This video is still being processed (it should be at 480p when it’s finished), but here is my capture of the broadcast.
About 45 minutes of the video was lost, but the audio was still recorded. So the title card is up during that time.
If anybody wants to add annotations or subtitles, I would be happy to add them.
