Tips for Buying EarthBound

July 22nd, 2010 | Merchandise, MOTHER 1, Videos

On YouTube, a Japanese user named kumao1002 posted a video of his MOTHER series merchandise collection, and it’s really impressive.

There’s stuff in there that I forgot even existed! I’m also amazed at the quality of some of these items, especially considering that MOTHER 1 was released 22 years ago. It’s also nice to see a lot of these things in more detail, a lot of it we only have a few meager pictures of.

The video’s in Japanese, but for the most part you can tell what’s going on.

I really like collection videos like this, so if anyone else here has a big collection, you should record it and send me a link to the video. I’ll post them on the site if there’s enough cool stuff for people to see 😀

:O the soundtrack cassette tape and that special eraser from that GBA promo. Two things I have yet to find. I have all those inserts with my copy of MOTHER too, but I lack access to it right now.

Huh! That’s awesome! I wish lik-sang didn’t go out of business, or more people would have been buying those cartridge erasers.

I’ll bet, honestly, that the MOTHER casette soundtrack wouldn’t be too hard to find in Japan, if you looked in the right places.

Wow. Also, check out his “Game Room Tour.” Unless he is a long-time Nintendo employee, this is just scary.

Heh, didn’t know that Famicom games were so small… Anyway, this is quite the impressive haul, especially considering its condition, and it really surprised me, even now after I’ve acquainted myself somewhat with the volume of MOTHER merchandise, just how much they produced so early on; I mean, I’m fairly sure most games don’t/didn’t get such treatment. Although, I suppose MOTHER isn’t most games… 😛

Wow, very impressive. I’m very jealous of how pristine everything he has is! I have all the same stuff as this guy, minus the cassette and eraser, but the condition of some of the items isn’t as good as I would care for. 🙂 Cool video!

I have everything there except the eraser
since lik-sang went out of business, it’s almost impossible to find them

Man… all I have is the loose cart of MOTHER. And full-boxed versions are 50 bucks on eBay… don’t even get me started on that MOTHER Encyclopedia… T_T

LucasTizma said on Jul. 23, 2010

@MrSaturnZOOM: Uh, you have the MOTHER OST cassette tape?

Poe said on Jul. 23, 2010

WANT that tape. That’s possibly the only bit of MOTHER merch I’d like to actually own. I love those old cassette tapes ~*~nostalgia fairy~*~

Awesome collection. That’s the first time I’ve seen the cassette in action.

‘you should record it and send me a link to the video’

In due time!

LucasTizma said on Jul. 23, 2010

Neonix, Onion, and I should put together everything we have and catalogue it in a series of videos. 🙂

Roo said on Jul. 23, 2010

Lucas, I would love to see that!

Greiv said on Jul. 23, 2010

This is absolutely wonderful. I actually haven’t seen all this merch in detail, and it’s just stunning. Makes me sad that this game never saw an official release outside of Japan. ]:

Loving the idea of more videos like this, keep them coming!

PK Saturn said on Jul. 24, 2010

Just imagine all of the extra merch if Mother was released in North America :0
