December 22nd, 2009 | EarthBound 64, Images, Uncommon Knowledge
The February 1998 issue of Dengeki 64 featured a lot of MOTHER 3 / EarthBound 64 stuff. Although I don’t have the time to translate it, I think fans of the series will still find it neat.
Besides all the amusing English-language stuff on the pages, Shogo Sakai, the composer for MOTHER 3, also stated back in 1998 that he had about 40 songs for the game finished already. He said Itoi let him do whatever he wanted with the music; he had no specific requests. The other guy (who I believe is named Takuto Kitta, but I might be wrong) handled the music programming and did a few songs for the game too, particularly techno-sounding stuff. They mention how mechs show up in the game, so for those scenes they wanted good fighting-style music, which the Takuto guy handled.
Later in the magazine, they interview Itoi but he won’t say anything about the game. I guess he stayed that way all the way to the release of the GBA version too.
Thanks go to KingDarian for procuring and scanning this stuff!

Itoi was still smoking at that time, I noticed from one of his photos. And what’s up with the photo of the cast in funeral style, or something? Is that a shot of Hinawa’s funeral? o.o
Wow, that’s really neat! Especially the “Mother 3 Times” page. Is it just me, or is that a New Age Retro Hippie in the top row of that picture?

Man, I still wear heavy shoe. It’s so pity.
Neat, but I dont know why is neat because I dont know what it says but, neat.
Could “that photographer!?” mean that the photo guy from EarthBound was to return? The thing I find most interesting about that picture is that at the top left you can see a more traditional Pigmask design, along with the other, more pickle-like one. I also wonder what all that missing kid stuff is. Very cool stuff.

Takuto Kitta…
Tomato, could his real name actually be Takuto Kitsuta?
I searched for his name on MobyGames (http://www.mobygames.com/developer/sheet/view/developerId,154576/) and found a profile under the name of Takuto Kitsuta.
His works include:
Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia (2008)
Super Smash Bros.: Brawl (2008)
Pokémon Ranger (2006)
Kingler’s Day (2001)
Machop at Work (2001)
Super Smash Bros.: Melee (2001)

I forgot to mention that if you take out “su” from “Kitsuta” it becomes “Kitta”. Just saying.

It’s amazing to think that so much of the game (64 ver.) was completed back then and they just shelved it.. and revamped it 10 years later or something? Very cool. I’m glad everything turned out the way it did. I totally prefer the GBA version of M3. Although, I am only basing this on screenshots and limited video.
Side Note: I don’t know if you know Mato but Smash Bros. 64 was just released on the Wii Virtual Console. This game is how I learned about Ness and EarthBound back in 1999. You can unlock Ness by beating Normal Mode w/ 3 guys and no continues!
