A couple weeks ago I posted about the really cool Chimera Hunt GMod addon when it was still being worked on. It’s since been finished and released! You can download it here! And here’s a new video of it: I wish my computer wasn’t stupid so I could play this, it looks kickass Thanks to the many people who sent in news about this all at once somehow! ...Read More »

In the Japanese anime series “Natsu no Arashi”, there’s a pretty big EarthBound cameo that includes Ness, Jeff, possibly King, and a well-endowed Starman. You can check it out here, see around the 1:25-ish mark. EarthBound cameos in TV shows seem to be really rare, in fact the cameo in Shin-chan is the only other one I can think of off the top of my head. So a cameo this big is ...Read More »

Some interesting stuff showed up on EB Central this past week, like an EarthBound Zero prototype auction, some magazine articles, and some interesting trivia. So here’s some other EarthBound stuff that’s happened elsewhere on the Internet this past week. Community News Post de hoy: HOLYSHIT Earthbound Mozilla Fire-bound e Resultados! A good while back Antiaverage scanned the MOTHER 1+2 CD and booklet and zipped them all up. The zip includes .png files as well as Photoshop PSD files, and all together they weigh in at 40 or 50 MB. If you’re interested, you can get the file here. One neat thing about the booklet is that it lists which musician did which songs. Of course it isn’t comprehensive; the CD doesn’t co...Read More »

Everyone knows Dr. Andonuts likes donuts/doughnuts, but not many people know where Dr. Andonuts actually gets his name. The Japanese are fond of azuki red bean paste, generally called an or anko in Japanese. They use it a lot in sweets, often as filling for pastries. If you’ve ever heard of the famous Anpanman animated character, his head is filled with an. This an is also used in donuts, wh...Read More »

In the past I wrote a couple articles about some of the similarities between EarthBound’s music and real-life music (see here and here), but YouTube user AgeOfPisces put together a very nice video showcasing some of the inspirations for the music in the game. In hindsight I probably should’ve made a video like this for one of those above articles, but this one is probably better than ...Read More »

Aerostella came across this scan from the November 1999 issue of Game Informer. In it, it previews EarthBound 64 but calls it EarthBound 3. (click for full size) Back then I don’t think it was called EarthBound 3 by anyone anywhere, so I’m guessing the editors tried to fix the game’s numbering issue themselves. Even Nintendo Power and Nintendo’s site were calling it EarthB...Read More »

Ninji sent this in a while back and insists it’s newsworthy. Is it? I dunno. I recently saw on the bottom of the EarthBound box, it has small writing saying that the box is actually RECYCLABLE check out a picture of the box enclosed in the letter, look at the bottom, there’s a red recyclable sign LOL I’m pretty sure many/most/all Super NES boxes had this message. I wouldn̵...Read More »

It looks like one of the few known EarthBound Zero prototype cartridges is back on the auction block: It’s priced at a little over $3000, though there’s also an “or best offer” set on it. This one sold for $1500 last time, so I’m not sure this one will go for the full $3000. You can check out more info about this and all the other known EarthBound Zero prototypes her...Read More »

Here’s a neat-looking handmade ad for MOTHER 2 in a Japanese game store. Not only does it look cool and stand out, it also heavily praises the game and talks about how it’s wonderful, how tear-jerking it can be, how it’s a masterpiece, etc. But most of all, the price stands out: only about $10 – $15 or so. Man, if only used EarthBound carts were that cheap. I’m not s...Read More »
