EARTHBOUND Mother (NINTENDO FAMICOM 1989) VGA 85 ARCHIVAL CASE

Tips for Buying EarthBound

May 14th, 2009 | EarthBound, Events, MOTHER 1, MOTHER 3

Starting tomorrow TheSpeedGamers will be having a 72-hour marathon of all the games in the MOTHER / EarthBound series. If you haven’t heard of these folks before, they basically play a bunch of games in a short amount of time and have a live video feed and chat room going on, and it’s usually for a charity of some sort. The charity this time is the Susan G. Komen breast cancer foundation.

Anyway, check out this promo video for the marathon:

Here is the official press-release for the event, which explains better than I can:

On May 15th at 6pm cst and lasting for 72 hours, TheSpeedGamers will begin their 10th marathon, 7th for charity. In total, they have raised over $22,000 for various causes. They will be raising money for Susan G Komen (Breast Cancer) this marathon.

TheSpeedGamers will play through Mother 1, Mother 2 (Earthbound), & Mother 3 live on webcam which can be seen on their website http://www.TheSpeedGamers.com . There will be commentary accompanying the game play, and Mother/Earthbound prizes given away. A chat below the video feed will be available to the viewers so they can interact with TheSpeedGamers and each other.

During the marathon TheSpeedGamers will be compiling Susan G Komen/Mother themed fan art to create a booklet to be made available as a PDF download on our website. There will be a limited number of physical copies made and given away as prizes.

About TheSpeedGamers

TheSpeedGamers are based in Arlington, Texas but have members from all around the world. Their continued success is further strengthed by their evergrowing community who help promote the marathons and contribute in various ways. TheSpeedGamers were founded in January 2008 followed by their first marathon in March.

About Susan G Komen (From their website www.komen.org)

Susan G. Komen fought breast cancer with her heart, body and soul. Throughout her diagnosis, treatments, and endless days in the hospital, she spent her time thinking of ways to make life better for other women battling breast cancer instead of worrying about her own situation. That concern for others continued even as Susan neared the end of her fight. Moved by Susan’s compassion for others and committed to making a difference, Nancy G. Brinker promised her sister that she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever.

That promise is now Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, the global leader of the breast cancer movement, having invested more than $1 billion since inception in 1982. As the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists, we’re working together to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures. Thanks to events like the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure®, and generous contributions from our partners, sponsors and fellow supporters, we have become the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world

Funny how the footage of Mother 3 is in english, making it possible that they’re raising money with a pirated version of the game(not that I’m complaining or anything, I just find it ironic)

I will seriously consider donating. Props to the guys at thespeedgamers.com for playing the Mother series for a good cause!

Jotokun – they own copies of all the games. They are going to play the English version for the sake of the viewers. Normally they only use real games running on normal hardware, but given the situation behind these games they make an exception for MOTHER.

Yay! I love watching these guys. I’ve donated once before, hopefully I can this time.
I could never speed through an RPG, I grind too much…

It’s hilarious how someone who calls himself “Dumbledore’s Love Slave” disapproves of that guy’s beard. Or maybe it’s only funny to me.

I’m gonna have some part in the marathon…I’m gonna sing and dance to All the Single Ladies because of a bet with Chase. Tune in if you want me to make a fool of myself.

Daw, ’tis a shame their MOTHER3 playthrough will be going into the dead of the night when will be asleep. I enjoyed the EarthBound ending live, though! Shame I missed MOTHER1’s. Well, I hope they raise lots of money, and even though I can’t send anything, I’ll be cheering them every step of the way!
