Interesting that its the only Nintendo series on that list? I guess they voted just series that warranted sequel on the works (that would also explain why no Dragon Quest or Pokémon in there).

I’m really happy with almost all these choices, but am I the only one that doesn’t want a new Mother right now?
I’m not saying there should never be Mother 4, but 3 wrapped things up great, and I can’t see where 4 could go.
Itoi’ll probably make it when the DSi is dying and Virtual Boy 2 had been out for a few years.

You’re not alone, Fred. I’m happy with how the trilogy ended. I like it better when things end at a good time, rather than being dragged on until they get stupid.

I’m not surprised by the absence of Smash Bros., since there’s a fairly-recent series entry at the moment, and it doesn’t seem “abandoned” like most of the entries on that list do. You’ll notice there’s no mention of most big-name franchises (Zelda, Mario, Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy) that sell massive numbers but also regularly, predictably see new releases; it’s mostly one-offs that people would like to see a sequel to and serieses that haven’t had an iteration in years. That said, I’d have picked Baten Kaitos myself; Viewtiful Joe is also a great choice. I’m with the people who think the Mother series is probably best to leave ended, though I certainly wouldn’t complain about a Mother-like game with the same quirky visuals and settings.

And lord knows there have been plenty of Super Mario RPGs since the original; Paper Mario on the N64 had the working title “Super Mario RPG 2,” so it’s pretty clear that Nintendo considers the Paper Mario / Mario & Luigi franchises to be SMRPG sequels.

And I’d guess that probably Chrono is so comparatively low on that list because, as much fun as the first one was, everybody played the second one also, and it was complete pants.

The title of this post totally gave me the idea that Ninten, Ness, and Lucas are “brothers from another mother.”

I was very pleased with that list. I hope that Xenogears means Xenogears, and not XenoSaga. And yes, Lufia is a nice addition. And Breath of Fire and Chrono. I’m sure a Chrono sequel should be made, since the re-release. Also, why not a Seiken Densetsu sequel that is more similar to Secret of Mana? I remember pre-ordering Legend of Mana because I thought it was gonna be like Secret of Mana. I was so wrong.

I think Mother 1 an Mother 3 would make the best movies of all the Mother games. Only as anime films, though. It’d be weird to see them as live-action movies, but that wouldn’t be bad, either.

My only concern is that it wouldn’t be a good sequel, but I mean really. It wouldn’t be able to hurt the greatness of the original game, so I think I’d be okay even if a sequel sucked.
