February 2nd, 2009 | EarthBound, MOTHER 1, MOTHER 3, Videos
For a good while now, a fad among Japanese gaming fans has been to take well-known anime intros and then remake them, replacing characters and places with characters and places from games they like. There are so many of these that it’s crazy, and the EarthBound/MOTHER games have had many anime-izations done too.
Here is one based on an intro for Shaman King. It’s pretty kickass, and everyone on the forums started drooling after watching it.
I’ll probably write up a page for all these anime-izations sometime, or maybe make a list of them or something. I translate anime for a living, and oh man what I wouldn’t give for there to be an EarthBound anime series, especially one that I could get to work on as translator

Pretty cool, but I guess I’d like it more if I was actually a fan of Shaman King. :S

Omg at Mr.Saturn scene
Actually all those anime-izations are pretty cool
Wow O_O
I have seen some of these on Youtube. I remember one of mother 3 whose name was something like “Blood + op” This one is pretty cool, though…
BTW Mato, you didn’t changed my avatar!!! >=(
Well, whatever, it is ok…
Question. Johnny Yong Bosch’s Wikipedia page cites him as playing a character named “Scott/Byakuka Takahasi” in an anime named… “Earthbound”. Earthbound’s Wikipedia disambiguation page lists an Earthbound anime that has apparently been running on TV Tokyo since 2002. This isn’t related to Mother at all, is it? I couldn’t even find anything about this anime anywhere else I looked, so I’m led to believe that it’s a troll, but if anyone could clear this up that’d be nice.

Looks like it’s just a clever trolling.

TheFlint: That’s why I told you to test to make sure it works. Don’t blame me for your lack of testing
I went and fixed it though.
Why did Paula clobber Ness with a frying pan at the end? What does it say in Japanese?
Wow, I can’t believe I haven’t seen this one yet. Some of the pictures were a bit weird to me but this is still awesome.
This is awesome for what it is, but I don’t think Mother would make a very good anime series.
IWGOTD, that may be true, but the concept still has a little quirk or charm to it. The Mother 1-esque models at the end were actually my favorite part.
To reply to B, I think there is an anime called “Earthbound God”, but I’m not sure. I dunno if you will ever read this, though. :S
The video is awesome. I have seen Shaman King’s opening and now I’m pleasantly surprised.

Slagy: I’m actually not sure why she does that. At the end it just says “thank you”.
If you’re going to make a list of all the adaptions, here’s #2 for your list:

If you want more anime-esque EB/Mother stuff, you might want to look at the youtube account of yurugu3. This guy (girl?) is my main source of Mother vids for a while now. Personnaly, this one is one of my favorite: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-A23EkKlSQ
even if I don’t understand anything -.-…
I absolutely love Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni, and Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni Kai… the Mother 3 version of Kai’s OP… that’s what got me started on the anime series. I wish there was a Mother 1/2 version of Kai’s OP too. D8
O.O I think I just went blind from exposure to PURE FRIGGIN’ AWESOME
@ Slagy & Mato: It looks to me like Paula is hitting Ness because he’s not bowing, like how people bow at the end of a play. At the very end they both are seen bowing, so that might explain why she just stares at him while he does the pose and then hits him (the pose-and-stare thing is probably also a throwback to the Cameraman pics where only Ness would do the signature pose and the others just kinda stand there).
That is so cool! I love this type of thing, so I’ll definitely have to look into more of them when I’ve got some time.
@ Master of Ramen: I’ve seen that first one you posted before. It’s simply amazing! Any idea if that was based off an anime or was it just an original animation?
I love these things (when there done well, like this lovely one here)
I’ve had an idea for doing something like this but with a non-anime show, but I think I’ll put off the idea due to the fact people might not be pleased with it.

Pretty great. Nice animation
Especially towards the end. I hate how it looks all soft and MOTHER like at first and then it gets all “shounen GARR” later. XD
Wish someone made Animated Openings using Pollyanna and Bein Friends for MOTHER. I always dreamed of doing it myself, but I don’t got the programs to do it.
The part where Jeff was pulling out the MEGA-LASER GUN was p. much the best thing I’ve ever seen.
I would be ok with a Mother anime as long they had those classic black speck eyes instead of those generic giant cucumber anime eyes.
That. Was. Epic.
5/5 stars.
Any one of the Mother games would make for an awesome anime…
Ya know, the whole thing in Mother 3 about seeking out seven things to awaken a dragon that reflects the heart of the user seems like a similar theme to a anime I once heard of. But I can’t quite put my finger on it…
It was good but … I’m sorry but when I saw Ana at the beginning and Duster at the end I couldn’t stop laughing.
That was amazing.
That one scene with Ness, Lucas, and the porky statue kinda reminded me of Brawl.
The ending picture brings me back to that whole Ninten scarf thing a posted in the MOTHER section. Can anyone answer that for me?

Oh GAWD that was amazing :K Lucas seems to be VERY crazy…..that rocks.
Luv for all those action scenes
Check this one out, its really amazing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wM0wGZib-Uk&feature=related
Great Crested Booka, that was the cutest little Loid ever! I also loved how the Pig King Statue melted out of the air.
What I didn’t like was how the Masked Man looked. He was smiling mischeviously. I’m pretty sure zombies don’t smile.
Then again, I’ve never heard of, much less watched, this anime. It’s prob’ly a reference to another character.
But, yeah, drool-worthy!
in japan there is a mother anime that airs only there….i just cant seem to find more info then that
i liked the part with mr saturn getting powerful and the phase distorter where is he at the end

where can i download this?
im with HyperNerd. Miyzaki should do it. he would be the best at it. Jeff-kun……
I think Mother 3 would make a fantastic anime, but I don’t think Earthbound would. Maybe Mother could, but it’d have to follow the book more than the game.

thats just awesome
I would love if they made an animated trilogy of the Mother series, personally, but an anime based off of one would be nice too. If it hasn’t been done by the time I grow up, then I’ll make it.
But I have to agree, this seems like Miyazaki’s job. Maybe we can request it or something?
I loved how Mr.Saturn came in all epic. There needs to be an anime. My friend is an anime junkie and this may be the only way to get him into the series
my sister keeps on playing the scene with lucas fighting the masked man overandoverandoverANDOVERAGAIN!!!!!!! It drives me insane!!!!!

the only thing I dislike is how they constantly alternate anime style with the clay model style
Has anyone seen the Mega-man Star-force anime. That would probably be what the anime would be like animeish carttonish.
my favoret part was the one where it showed all of the m3 charicters and the cantour parts
I think Earthbound would look better in a Western animation style. It would make more sense, considering the series takes place in America. Plus it would look more like the actual style of the games.
i think Darrow’s comic has convinced us that EarthBound might work as anime/animated series.

Man, I remember that when it was still a WIP!
The battle scene between the Masked Man and Lucas, and Jeff at the end are so kickass.
