February 18th, 2009 | Audio Stuff, EarthBound, Uncommon Knowledge
Now for a kind of reverse of the previous post about EarthBound music using stuff from other music!
Japanese baseball is hard to explain quickly, but it’s a bit different from American baseball. Even the cheers in the stands are heavily organized, and individual players are given their own cheer songs that people sing when they’re at bat.
Shigeyuki Furuki, when he played for the Nippon Ham Fighters (oh man, did I just type that sentence), had his cheer song taken from MOTHER 2 / EarthBound. I managed to find an audio clip of it, so I put it to some pics of him and subbed his cheer into English.
I also found this MIDI of his song a few years back. I had always wanted to tell people about this. This is exactly the kind of stuff I made EarthBound Central for

Nippon Ham Fighters: Only second to the Tokyo Gas Creators. (http://www.tg-creators.com)
I know nothing of Baseball. Especially not JAPANESE baseball.
But this guy is now my all-time favorite player.

I’m a big baseball fan, so I thought this was pretty amusing. Especially since you mention the Nippon Ham Fighters, which is absolutely my favourite Japanese baseball team ever.
I had the fortune of watching a baseball game while I was in Japan, and seeing how ridiculous the crowds are saddened me that we’ve been doing baseball all wrong. While the Ham Fighters are an excellent team, I got to shout out for the Hanshin Tigers, the rowdiest team in the leagues.
Interesting. My goal is to now get the Drugstore song to play wherever I go. And possibly drive people mad, but it comes with the territory.
Lollerskates. I am very amused.
I try to apply Mother series music to my various locations travelled to in life.
did you know robo’s theme in chrono trigger is actually “never gonna give you up” as made famous by rick astley

whoper, not true. That’s only the very beginning of the song that might’ve been lifted, not the entire thing – after the first few seconds they don’t sound alike anymore!
Anywho, this is really awesome. Do the players themselves choose their songs, or do fans just randomly come up with them, or…? Because -somebody- in there must’ve been a fan.

That MIDI makes a good ringtone.
In response to OTHERHAND:
Usually when they do a player’s chant, the little follow up at the end where they say “Let’s go -Insert Player’s Name Here-” is added onto whatever their song is. I know a few players on the Tiger’s, who are actually from the states, also have some of their favorite songs as chant for when they step up to the plate. If I remember correctly, one of their player’s had “We Will Rock You” as his chant.
Ok what kind of a baseball team name is that? See, a real name, like the Twins, would make it was more awesome. I find it kind of amusing though too. I guess I’m not to familiar with the Japanese leage.
Oh man, at first I didn’t recognize what song from EB it was supposed to be, but after I listened to it again it sort of clicked and this became one of the coolest things I have ever seen/heard. If stuff like that happened more often, I’d be a lot more likely to start liking sports.
