Remember me? Alright, here’s my question. Who’s talking during the Mr. Saturn coffee and Tenda tea scenes?! |

Oooweh… Ness’s reflection on the recent events, Mr. Stinkbug. I’m sure you know a bit about this.
I never thought about it before…I’ll say Ness. He’s reflecting, sort of narrating his thoughts.
It’s a creepy guy in a trent coat… (Ninten’s Dad! =D)
Serious though:
Well, I always though it was Shigesato Itoi himself, like in the event in the desert mine…
(that would be so cool =D)

I do get the Itoi vibe too, It just feels like he’s guiding you through how he wants you to feel and reflect upon while playing the game.
Nobody is talking, that’s why the Japanese version uses Kanji. The words come fully formed to Ness’s mind, like a reverse Lumine Hall Effect.

Nobody.
There is just some strange stuff in that coffee.
it’s so strange how i (and apparently a lot of people) haven’t even thought about that until now…..
it’s a the inner voice inside who’s talking.. its God mannnn!
It’s the Ghost of Buzz Buzz! Actually I can’t think of anyone else who speaks with that kind of mood during the coffee conversations at the moment.

I always thought of it as kind of a conversation with the Mr. Saturns, but not in an ordinary way; sort of like drinking the coffee puts Ness and Mr. Saturn really “in touch” with one another, so Ness can finally really understand their wisdom, instead of just perceiving them as weird.
It’s the hot springs. the Mr Saturn feed it some drug making it a sentient being
It’s ME. I’m the one talking. I just like to reassure Ness, and give him advice.
Personally, I just assumed it was whoever offered the coffee (the Mr. Saturn or the Tenda). That Mr. Saturn just happens to be rather eloquent! …AAaaand psychic.
ITS POSSIBLE.

I always assumed it was Ness’s dad, but I really don’t know. I’d like an official answer!
Well, I DO like the Itoi idea and the “it’s the player talking” idea.
I always thought it was the Saturns… except Ness hears what he wants to hear from them.
Why? There’s something special about the coffee.
You see, they get this very SPECIAL coffee from the “cafe” in Fourside.
They WARNED Ness that he was too young to handle the good stuff.
It’s NOA, trying to give you their cheap, crappy coffee. Because the game stinks, am I right?
I always figured it was some kind of God figure that was willing the team on omnisciently. The strange thing is, I was raised by agnostic parents and carry the same feelings on religion myself. I suppose the moment just struck me as being particularly spiritual.
The same person who asks for your name. Yes, you, holding the controller.
I’d probably say the Game Designer again.
He’s always around, to help you along the way.
Ness’s conscience.
Maybe something like an imaginary friend, and he is only
in his mind.
Now that I think about it, it could be Giygas. Because at the end of the game, the voice never talks to Ness. Giygas could have been talking in third person. So when he died, he was never able to talk to Ness again.

Now that I think about it, who’s asking you for your name in Mother 3 when you’re at the beginning of the game?
I’m all for it being Itoi… or the hallucinogens. Seriously, that’s some messed up coffee and tea!
I did see that someone said that it could be Ness’ inner monologue, but why would he refer to himself as “Ness” and not, “me” or “I”?
I always thought it was Buzz buzz’s spirit talking for some reason.

How about the Apple of Enlightenment?
I always thought it was the player playing the game, for it knew things every npc didn’t know about them.

I thought of it as Mr. Saturn, really.
It could be the narrator. Someone who sticks with Ness enough to narrate everything he does (Ness tried to run away!) must be really serious about him.

“Oh snap! That wasn’t Pepsi! Err, never you mind!”
…Anyway, it didn’t speak like a Saturn or a Tenda. So that leads me to think it was just Ness spacing out and thinking about everything he’s done thus far. So, no one is really “talking”. It’s just him leisurely thinking to himself I guess.
Hollow leviathan, wasn’t the one who asks for your name Tony? I don’t think it was Tony. He had a crush on Jeff, not Ness. Anyway, I always just assumed it was the Saturn/Tenda, who happened to know a lot of stuff. But now that I think about it, it was just a message from the designers/beyond/Ness daydreaming.
it was the tenda in the tenda scene and MrSattern In the Sattern Valley scene
I think I remember hearing it was a slight translation error, and that the “I wish you luck” phrase shouldn’t have been in first person.
My personal choice? Xfis’s Ninten Voice.

It could be Ness’ dad, but I dunno.
(To be honest, I’ve never really thought about this one before_
