Saw this on the forums, buried in an art topic. I can’t believe how well-done these mockups are. The attention to insane detail rivals my own, which is why at first I was stunned for half a second while I tried to figure out how they stole all our hack code to even get the fonts and positions just right
Seriously, even the part where a manual line break had to be put before Ninten’s name in the cactus screen would’ve been necessary if this was really real. Incredible.
Anyway, these are just mock pictures, showing how EarthBound Zero might look like if recreated using MOTHER 3-style stuff.

Simply amazing
Sadly, the MOTHER 3 ROM is way way unsuited for major hacks of this level. EarthBound is actually nice and flexible (albeit programmed strangely), but MOTHER 3, without a doubt, would be much much harder to hack to make new things. I really hope maybe someday Itoi or someone will see these and be like “whoaaaa” and then actually make this happen. Damn that would be awesome.
I think the closest this could ever come to reality (besides Nintendo actually making it) would be something like an RPG Maker version, and there’s already a good EB0 RPG Maker remake in the works. Though a version that looked like these pics would be a 100% incredible awesome thing to have.

26 Comments to Mock MOTHER 1 in MOTHER 3 Form
It’d be interesting, that much can be said for it. But I’m also interested in starting a project like this, only not using existing tiles from M3. It’d take forever, but I don’t CARE!
The only thing I’m stumbling on right now is the code. I know how the GBA recognises graphics now (and the 6 modes), so I can work on graphical tiles to use for… well, everything. But main coding I’ve still no clue at the moment. That’ll be fun! I’ve a good handle on the mechanics, and what sort of mechanics and triggers would work (I considered maybe having a ‘speedrun’ feature that allows you to see how long you’ve been playing, but that’d be more for a DS feature).
Watch this not happen now. ;P
To add more to Potato’s comment, Toast and his team are working in a fangame, the Earthbound Zero Remake, and they eventually adopted M3′s style. I think this would be the closest alternative to an official remake; the mapping looks professional.
Of course, I would do anything to get an official remake is one is ever released.
This is the preview video for Toast’s remake:

DUUUUUUDE!!
WWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH there was a cool EB0
remake inside!
But seriously this looks awsome I’ve dreamed about mother and 2 looking like this.
The sad thing about those RPG maker games is that RPG maker is a bit too unflexible for things like the psychedelic backgrounds, the music battle system, and so on.
Game Maker could work, though. There’s a Mother 4 game by Chaisu that looks EXTREMELY promising, and I’ve been assured that the custom GM engine is VERY close to the Mother 3 original. Maybe, just maybe, that engine might be released as a framework for a GML based Mother-game-maker
Millhouse prayed from the bottom of his heart.
Where might you find this stuff, ’cause I’d really like to play them if possible….
Someone is making a Mother4? I’m going have to check that out sometime.

These look really amazing but they failed in that they didn´t check Pipi´s official clay model for her sprite.

I am one of the 84% who Really-REALLY wath this (especially with the sound battle system)…
Waitwaitwaitwaitwaitwait WAIT.
Starmen in a different pose? That alone makes this amazing.
I would rather have EB0 in Earthbound style. I think Mother 3 was made in its style to fit its different mood, location, and enemy. The GBA has the same graphics capabilities as the SNES, so if they had wanted to, they could have made EB look like mother 3 when they made it. On the other hand, EB0 was limited by the NES, and has a more similiar style to EB than to Mother 3. But thats just my ten cents (we need to get rid of the penny).
This is pure epicness in a sweet, sugar coated hack ofv a great Japanese game.
this isnt a mock of it some people are making a downloadable mother 1 remake for the pc
I hope it comes out fast I want it nom nom nom…
But not really, I just finished EB0 last month, so I can wait for a year or two =)
This game should be on the Nintendo DS system and the game is called “Earthbound: The First”. I want to play really badly because I never play an Earthbound game.
